the fine print

PETSCII is a pet made of characters that lives in 3D on Robinhood Chain. this page says exactly how it works, where it lives, and what it is not.

the pet
  • one pet per wallet. the species is the first byte of keccak(address) modulo 6: cat, dog, fish, bird, bunny, snake. same math everywhere, no rerolls.
  • adopting earns 100 kibble. a name is up to 20 characters, letters, digits, spaces and a few marks.
  • mood is hours since the last feed: full under 6, peckish under 18, hangry after. the pet says so in its own words.
the acts and the kibble
  • feed: +10 kibble, counts again after 4 hours.
  • play: +15 kibble, counts again after 2 hours.
  • train: +25 kibble, counts again after 8 hours.
  • check in: +40 kibble, counts again after 20 hours.
  • a streak is one act a day in UTC days. three days or more multiplies every act by 1.5, seven or more by 2.
  • levels cost 200 kibble more each time: 200, then 400, then 600.
  • kibble is a number on this site. it is not a token, not money, not a claim on anything, and it cannot be moved, sold or redeemed.
the token side

$PETSCII exists. once it does: adopting takes at least $1 of it in the wallet, and holding $10 or more multiplies kibble by 1.5; $100 or more multiplies kibble by 2. the wallet balance is read on the chain, the price from a public pool feed at the moment of the act. holding earns kibble, never the other way around.

who may act

reading a pet or the board needs nothing. acting on a pet (adopt, name, feed, play, train, check in) needs the owner: the wallet signs one plain sentence (EIP-191) that names its address and its own expiry, 24 hours; no transaction, no fee, no permission. the sentence is kept in the browser and checked on the server with every act, which then reads the wallet balance when the token exists. one act every 1.5 seconds per wallet.

where pets live

in a store the owner attaches (a Redis REST store; the adapter is in the code and switches on by environment). until then in the memory of the server instance, which a restart wipes; the pet screen and the board say so on the page. nothing else is stored: no cookies, no accounts, no emails.

wallets on record

a wallet that connects and signs the sentence is put on record: its address, when it first signed in, when it was last seen, how many times, and the name its wallet app announced (Rabby, MetaMask and so on). the record is public at /wallet/<address> together with the pet, the pet's last 30 acts and, once $PETSCII exists, what the wallet holds of it read from the chain. /wallets lists every wallet on record, newest first. a wallet that only connects and does not sign is not recorded. the record keeps nothing else: no IP, no browser, no other tokens.

the nft shelf

every adopted pet is a card on the shelf. minting opens when an NFT contract exists on the chain; until then the mint key on every card says soon and does nothing, and nobody is selling cards.

the token

the ticker is $PETSCII on Robinhood Chain. this is the only contract; it is printed here and under the wordmark on the home page. any address shown anywhere else is not ours.

changelog
  • PETSCII opens: the logo cat in 3D, six species, the pet screen with four acts, the kibble rules, the litter board, the nft shelf, this page.
  • the boot and the page commands; the ticker; wallets on record with a public profile per wallet, the pet's history and a roster at /wallets.

PETSCII is a game of points on Robinhood Chain. it is not affiliated with Robinhood or with Commodore, whose PETSCII character set the name tips its hat to. nothing here is advice. if a token exists it can go to zero, and a signed transaction cannot be undone.
